Tennant Lake

This morning I took the kids to nearby Tennant Lake where there are some walking trails. It was a beautiful springish day with the sun peeking out every now and then. I want to build up their walking endurance so we can do some walking/hiking this summer with them. Overall they walked about 2.5 miles!(the older kids, that is) Luke ended up being carried about half the time. I thought that was pretty good for a first attempt. David kept saying, “This is the best day ever!” Poor kid…I really need to do this kind of thing more with them.
So, now our plan is to try out a different park every Saturday that’s available. Hold me to it! I need some accountability here!
Oh yeah…the trail we took…big mistake! We did one called a “boardwalk loop” which was a boardwalk pathway over a marshy area…except the marshy area was totally flooded, and there were no railings on the boardwalk, and the boards were very slippery! In some places the boards were under an inch or two of water. It was the kind of situation where I thought it would get better, then when it didn’t, I thought we’d almost reached the end of the loop. We ended up getting 2/3 of the way around the loop and had to turn back because we reached a totally flooded area. I was really nervous that one of them would slip off the edge into the water, and we had a few close calls, but I must have done a good job bluffing, because they hardly seemed worried.
I forgot to take any pictures of this part…I was too busy trying to keep my balance.

He climbed the whole way by himself! It was about 6 flights of stairs!

David always loves to use the fireman’s pole.

What fun, being out of doors in the spring time! We had beautiful weather this weekend too. Sounds like quite a trail, more fun for the kids but lots of worry for mom!
Looks like a beautiful area – sort of reminds me of the park near our old house in Langley, don’t remember what it was called. Makes me want to go for a hike!
I have never heard of this area, thanks for posting about it, we’ll have to go check it out!
FUUUNNNN!!! We’ll have to get together this summer now that we are not pregnant and we have all our kids walking!!! My kids love stuff like that!
You should come out and do Little Si with us. Do you have a hiking backpack for Luke? The older kids can do the hike, just not the little guys.
