So Much Excitement, So Much Bread!

I’ve been super excited lately about this:

A new Mom & Pop Thrift Store opened just down the street from us, and when I went there on Monday I found this breadmaker for $13, which the owner assured me worked fine.  And indeed it does….so far I’ve made 3 loaves of bread!  We’ve wanted one of these for years, but never invested the time and money in researching and buying one; and besides, I always figured I should learn how to make it the old fashioned way like my model-housekeeping little sister….but that just didn’t seem to be happening for me.  :)

Anyways, we’re definitely a “bread family” and I’m pretty excited about having fresher, healthier, cheaper and tastier bread to serve on a regular basis!  Now I am working on finding/creating the perfect recipe which consists of a minimum of ingredients, has a significant amount of whole grains in it, and one that the whole family loves.  If anyone has a recipe they’d recommend, please e-mail it to me: Mommy@gmail.com, if you have time.

David and Esther: bread, butter and honey is not a balanced meal, no matter how much of it you eat!

Yum …. there’s nothing like fresh homemade bread … and Mom you could do worse than fresh wholewheat bread, butter and honey.

Haha–your former opinion of the breadmaker totally cracked me up… I too, held that same opinion for a long time… Why should I get a breadmaker–people have been making bread for hundreds of years without them fancy machines… my opinion has loosened up considerably. :-) I am not superwoman. Now, while I still don’t have a breadmaker, I have been making bread from scratch a lot more. But, I do buy some bread still for sandwiches, so I think that is where the breadmaker would be really good. And I think that is a perfectly acceptable snack!!! Better than oreos… or the like. :-)

FUN! I love our bread maker, although I still have yet to make, texturally speaking, a good loaf of bread. :-) Yours looks pretty good! I do agree, I like the feeling of making my own bread, but it is a long process and some days, it just doesn’t work out. I like to keep those bonds with our ancestors. :-) Mmmm, butter and honey on fresh bread, doesn’t get much better than that!

Don’t you remember when bread was THE staple food? Oh, yeah, we’re from the era that frowns on carbs, I forgot.

Anyway, what an awesome find! I’ve wanted a breadmaker for years (since my last one broke), but unless I find some smokin’ deal like this, it probably won’t happen! Isn’t it so comforting to smell the aroma of fresh bread? SO much better than store bought, I agree.

even for a smokin price or even a burnt price “hero” says I’m never allowed to buy one! I’m thinkin we’ll have to find a deal on self-control first.

Your post inspired me to dust off our bread maker today. Mmmm, it’s in the bake mode and smells so good!
