Road Trip!

We had a wonderful time on a road trip to Calgary this past weekend and for once I remembered(wasn’t holding a baby the whole time!) to take lots of pictures.
The open road, amazing scenery and our whole family together! What could be better? (This was taken heading West from Calgary)
Saturday mid-morning – At a visitor center near Merritt, BC, David is showing his Maynards Wine Gums – only sold in Canada and a family favorite!
Stopping at Grandma and Grandpa M’s house in Kelowna was a perfect break. The kids loved feeding the ducks exploring around the creek and eating a very yummy kid-friendly lunch that Grandma made for us. It was so good to see Grandma and Grandpa again after far too long and we all got to rest and relax before the (gulp) 8 hours of driving ahead of us.
Enoch “playing” with the ducks.
The best we could get in a hurry and getting close to naptime for tired kids.
Amazing colored water(Wood Lake?) that the picture doesn’t do justice to.
We stopped at this cool Fruit Stand and farm a few hours East of Kelowna. We woke up the sleeping kids for this – it seemed worth it at the time.
They had a playground, goat pens, fresh peaches(we bought a whole case and they were amazing!)COFFEE, and lots of interesting things to look at and buy.
Daddy with Elephant Garlic.
I wanted to buy the whole case of these amazing cheeses, but I managed to restrain myself.
We arrived in Calgary around 12:30am Calgary time and had no trouble falling right to sleep.
The next day(Lord’s Day) we headed to the Calgary meeting room for the Breaking of Bread and had a wonderful time with some of the most welcoming and hospitable people. Joe and France O. invited everyone over for lunch after meeting. It was a time of good food, great fellowship and I can’t remember the last time I’ve laughed so hard. After lunch and a Bible reading/hymn sing the kids were thrilled to discover they had horses. Thanks Sam and Abbie for your patience in helping the kids on the horses! I’m pretty sure this was one of the biggest highlights of the trip for them.
These two were hilarious in their frog hunting. The little girl is Alexis G. and she’s holding the frog here squeezed between her thumb and finger while Luke is concerned and telling her “he wants to go to his home now”.
Abbie O. working on jumping her horse.
Daddy helping Alexis have a ride.
Thanks Joe and France and everybody else. We had a great day!
Sunday night: The long-anticipated swimming at the “hotowel”. Can you feel the excitement?
Cutie!
Daddy throwing Esther in.
A scary Sea Monster.
Monday we slept in and then we were off….heading home.
An absolutely perfect and refreshing trip! Can’t wait to repeat it…maybe next Labor Day weekend?
Sweet Six
Esther turned 6 at the end of February. Our little girl is growing up too fast. Cliche – I know, but true.
She declared this to be the “most beautiful cake ever!” I love how easy children are to please….well – sometimes anyways.
Pink, sparkly sprinkles and hearts…that pretty much sums up her favorite things right now.
Her birthday dinner of choice: ribs, artichokes, ceasar salad(not shown) and rice.
Happy Birthday Sweetie! We love you!
And a short walk down memory lane:
